"Despite the challenges posed by millennials’ viewing habits, non-linear viewing and the multiscreen video consumption, satellite operators have continued to defy the odds and prosper.
In this issue of Digital TV Europe, we focus on various ways that the satellite business is continuing to stay relevant.
We assess the current state of UHD TV – likely to drive demand for satellite bandwidth in mature markets – and look at some of the issues currently occupying the minds of those involved in developing services.
We look at how satellite operators are working with DTH pay TV providers and free-to-air broadcasters on ways to future-proof their services against the falling cost of OTT deliver and the challenge posed by multiscreen viewing of both on-demand and live content.
Finally, we look at the future of occasional use services, focusing in particular on preparations for the Rio Olympic Games.
Also in this issue, we look at some of the technologies that will be demonstrated at the forthcoming NAB Show in Las Vegas and provide our usual round-up of the top industry news."

In this issue of Digital TV Europe we look at how the user experience is evolving and how content discovery is taking centre stage, with voice-based technologies in particular coming to the fore.
We also look at some of the practical steps being taken by pay TV service providers to use the growing amount of data available to them to drive uptake of their services, improve customer retention and shape their offerings as well as to build compelling advertising propositions.
Finally, the distribution of high-quality premium content via OTT networks – including UHD TV – requires additional security measures to guarantee that rights-holders’ revenue streams are not compromised. We look at how OTT security is evolving to meet the challenge."

As demand grows, operators are expected to ensure that high-bandwidth services like 4K UHD video and virtual reality gaming can reach multiple devices wirelessly. We look at how they are tackling the need to deliver high-bandwidth in-home connectivity for multiple applications – including, but not limited to, video.
An alternative to investing in expensive new set-top boxes or gateways is to try to deliver as much as possible from the cloud. In this copy of DTVE we assess the growing importance of cloud technology in delivering mainstream TV services, focusing on three key applications: cloud-based DVR; targeted advertising; and the overall user experience.
