The Politics of Regulation - Institutions and regulatory reforms for the age of governance / Jacint Jordana
Titre : The Politics of Regulation - Institutions and regulatory reforms for the age of governance Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Jacint Jordana, Editeur scientifique ; David Levi-Faur, Auteur Editeur : Cheltenham [United Kingdom] : Edward Elgar Publishing Année de publication : 2004 Collection : The CRC series on competition, regulation and development Importance : xiii, 335 p. Format : 24 cm Prix : 94,34-€ Langues : Anglais Tags : régulation gouvernance Europe télécommunications institutions aspect économique concurrence Résumé : Présentation de l'éditeur :
"This book suggests that the scope and breadth of regulatory reforms since the mid-1980s and particularly during the 1990s, are so striking that they necessitate a reappraisal of current approaches to the study of the politics of regulation. The authors call for the adoption of different and fresh perspectives to examine this area.
The contributors to this volume analyse how regulatory regimes that were once peculiar to the US and a few industries have, in recent years, come to define the best practice of governance over the world capitalist economy and over numerous social and economic sectors. They go on to suggest various explanations for the expansion of regulatory institutions, addressing some of the most critical problems and offering new methodological techniques to enable further study. The contributions also provide distinct cross-national and cross-sectoral comparative approaches, and emphasise the changes in the economic and social context of regulation and the implications of these developments on the rise of the regulatory state. These changes, together with the general advance in the study of regulation, undoubtedly demand a re-evaluation of the theory of regulation, its methodologies and scope of application.
This book is a perceptive investigation of recent evolutions in the manner and extent of governance through regulation. Scholars and students of comparative politics, public policy, regulation theory, institutional economics and political sociology will find it to be essential reading. It will also prove a valuable source of reference for those working or dealing with regulatory authorities and for business managers in private industries and services operating under a regulatory framework."

A current key challenge is therefore to define stategies, which can stimulate demand and investments in NGN in order to ensure development of adequate information infrastructures. With contributions from leading authorities in the field, this innovative book explores the three key themes related to this challenge and to strategies for the stimulation of demand and supply for NGN : stategies for expansion of broadband, pricing in NGN and development and pricing of mobile services. Titre : Handbook on the economics of the media Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : R.G. Picard, Auteur ; Steven S. Wildman, Auteur Editeur : Cheltenham [United Kingdom] : Edward Elgar Publishing Année de publication : 2015 Importance : 424 p ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-85793-888-6 Langues : Anglais Catégories : MEDIAS Tags : audiovisuel presse écrite médias télévision internet jeu vidéo publicité aspect économique concurrence législation régulation manuel droit d'auteur Index. décimale : 330 Economie Résumé : Présentation par l'éditeur :
"At a time of growing interest in economic aspects of media, this edited volume presents a comprehensive and timely set of perspectives on key sectors of media and media infrastructures and related economic questions. Impressive in both scope and depth, this well-informed book guides readers through a compelling set of concepts and issues relevant to an increasingly internationalised contemporary media environment.’
– Gillian Doyle, University of Glasgow, UK
This Handbook explores the economic features of the media and its infrastructure to provide readers with a sophisticated understanding of the critical issues and their influence on companies, audiences and regulators. The contributors explore and explain the impact of underlying factors such as multi-sided platforms, advertising and industry structure. They assess the unique economic factors affecting print, broadcast and broadband-based media, and highlight how the economics of the media can influence policy making. Each original chapter introduces the reader to a specific topic, reviews the literature on the development of knowledge in the field, explores critiques of the approach, and provides an understanding of applying this knowledge and the implications."
